Doctor Experiences Traumatic Breakdown, Sheds Light on Mental Health
Author and Medical Doctor L.P. Shares her Personal Experience to Help Others
NEW YORK, N.Y. (July 9, 2018) – As Suicide Prevention Awareness Month approaches, two recent celebrity suicides are still making headlines. Trying to understand the deaths of two people who seemed to have it all, designer Kate Spade and celebrity chef and television personality Anthony Bourdain, the public is forced to take a closer look at mental health.
In “Trapped in My Mind: Rescue Me,” doctor L.P. provides a tool for opening up dialogue about stress and mental health, to provide an avenue for understanding and compassion.
“I was working as a doctor and taking care of everybody else,” L.P. said. “I neglected my own health and found out that the mind can only take so much before it breaks.”
L.P. was a traveling medical doctor, working temporarily in Arizona when she found herself experiencing hallucinations and hearing voices. In her new book, she shares the visions she saw and the alternate reality she experienced, while in the midst of her psychotic episode.
“I never thought anything like this would ever happen to me,” L.P. said. “But maybe, by sharing my story, it will make it easier for someone else to reach out for help. I let loneliness and depression allow me to isolate myself and I stopped taking care of me. I want others to know that they are not alone.”
